Time to Pretend

Now, you are all going to have to forgive me here a little. Since I live in China and do not get to hear all the new, hip tunes on the airwaves I seemed to have missed this little gem of a song. I first heard it on my JAL flight coming home (somewhere over Midway Islands) and was really pumped. Once at home I then researched this song and realized it has already come and gone as the new blockbuster explosion on the pop-culture scene in North America. Either way, I think it is a great song and easily makes this week’s Song of the Week (even if I am a year or two late!)

Getting Close

We are getting so close to the end that I can almost see it…

KTV

Do you have the Thursday, end of May blues? Well, there is only one thing to remedy that: Karaoke! Yes folks, grab yourself a nice cold cocktail, loosen up that collar and sing as loud as you can. Nothing (and I mean nothing) cures your woes like a good old fashioned karaoke tune. Enjoy!

I have always been a big fan of Beck, and here is one of his classic songs to get you through the rest of the week…enjoy!

Coward of the County

March 11, 2008

I am not sure exactly how it happened, but the other day while flipping through Youtube I got sidetracked down a Kenny Rogers pathway. I came across this classic song of his and soaked in the nostalgia of it; now, our house didn’t have a lot of Kenny hanging around but there is no question he was big news while growing up. While listening to this song, I realized once again the power of this song. Yes, this is a nice, catchy little tune but when you really listen to the ballad there is some pretty serious s-h-i-t going on. Anyways, I can’t seem to get the jingle out of my head these days so I felt it deserved to be this week’s Song of the Week. Hope you enjoy!

Next Stop Bangkok!

Two nights really, but what the hay, we’re on our way!!

Sunshine

January 8, 2008

Well, she did it! Yesterday our visa agent, Sunshine, in Beijing handed in our passports to the Myanmar embassy and got the official stamp we needed for our holiday. Getting the visa is not the big issue, but because we waited until the very last moment we needed to get it done ASAP and needed everything to work out just perfectly for in order for it to be done - and in China that can always be dicey. But, Sunshine came through in the clutch and did a fantastic job for us. So today, we celebrate Sunshine and all her wonderful efforts! Thank you Sunshine!!

Sittin’ on the Deck…

August 15, 2007

Well, here in Victoria the family is just having a good time sittin’ around watching the time roll away until the 23rd. I am trying to take a little vacation from the blog just to give myself a little rest - please do not fret, I will be back in action very soon! All in all, the family is doing great and we are now just getting everything ready to go back to China.

Switching to Glide

June 26, 2007

Yes, I know, maybe a bit of a cheesy song here, but, it does encapsulate perfectly where my mindset is right now. Classes are done, marks are in and one more test to invigilate and we are off on a plane this coming Sunday!

Ode to the Hicks

June 16, 2007

**Please note, this is NOT for young children**

Well, tomorrow is the big Father’s Day classic in our on-going saga of Roller Dragons ball hockey. This year, we categorized ourselves into our geographical regions of birth (or hometowns), which eventually gave us the billing: Hicks vs Slicks. While the Hicks have a solid line-up, we just have not been able to put all the right tools together when needed. But, tomorrow is another day and it is our final chance of this year to prove our worth - so, to my fellow Hicks, let this song be our rallying cry! We will be victorious tomorrow!
