Well, I don’t know what it is with Engleson children and beds, but last night we had another situation where one of our children fell off the bed and got hurt - except this time it was Svea. Last night around 2:30-3:00 o’clock in the morning she rolled off the bed and (we can only assume) hit her head on the night table on the way down. Now, she did not need any stitches like Magnus and is doing just fine, but, one careful look at these two dingbats’ foreheads clearly shows why they are related!
Stay off the Beds!!!
September 28, 2007Busytime Svea
September 27, 2007With each passing day, our little Svea continues to grow into a little girl. Here we see her crawling and getting her hands on anything she sees.
Mid-Autumn Festival
September 26, 2007Yes, with the harvest moon in full view last night all the people in China were celebrating the annual mid-autumn moon festival; basically this is the Chinese version of Thanksgiving. And what do the people do during this festival? Well, they get together with family and eat lots of fruit (good for soul) and mooncakes: a mooncake is kind of like a tart but without any flavor (some are not bad). Then, what would a festival in China be without fireworks? It wasn’t too bad last night, but there was enough to know that something big was in the air.
Up, up and Away!
September 24, 2007That’s Incredible!!
September 23, 2007Just thought I would enlighten you about a conversation I had with Darren Brown last night: Her name was Cathy Lee Crosby on “That’s Incredible”, and the other guy on “Real People” was Skip Stevenson. For the life of us we couldn’t figure out their last names. That, and we discussed the finer points of John Davidson’s hair!
Price of Admission
September 21, 2007Well, I do not like talking about American politics but I just gotta hand it to the ol’ Prez. It just seems that this man simply cannot stop opening his mouth and saying the most ridiculous things. For eight years now this bumbling fool has made a complete mockery of himself, and his nation, and it clearly looks like he will continue this legacy until he is gone. God bless you President Bush, your stupidity has easily been worth the price of admission.

Typhoon Wipha!!
September 20, 2007With the school on full alert, the students in total lock down throughout the night, the people of Dalian have been frantically bracing themselves for the onslaught on of…Typhoon Wipha! Yes, throughout the day, dreaded reports from down south have been flashing up on our computer monitors ensuring that we all take the necessary precautions; and then, today at 2:00pm, it hit - and yes, I think I might have even felt a drop of rain.
Family Interactions
September 19, 2007These days while Magnus hangs out at the house, he loves doing, and re-doing, his puzzles; and has become quite good at them. Now, add a newly standing and crawling younger sister into the mix and you have a wonderful family interaction.
Done!!
September 15, 2007Wow! That was a slog, ladies and gentlemen. I just finished sending in all my application requirements to the Masters of Creative Writing Program at UBC. It was a lot of work and I can only imagine what the workload will be like if I happen to get accepted; I really enjoyed the process, but it was work nonetheless. I would like to thank everyone who helped edit my work for me, all gave excellent feedback. Now, I can only hope and wait. Supposedly I will hear the news (good or bad) sometime in mid-December. But for now, I just feel like this…
One More…
September 13, 2007This should be the last one folks; again, my apologies. Almost done here!!
Diversion
September 11, 2007Yes, I am still hectically typing away trying to get everything done for this Friday, so, in the meantime here’s some magic tricks to divert your attention away from my lack of creativity on the blog. Sorry folks, stay with me, I am almost done!
Commie Frustration
September 9, 2007First off, I would like to apologize to all my faithful bloggers for my lack of posts in the recent days. Please allow me to explain my reasoning: 1. since arriving back in China, the internet connection(s) is absolutely brutal. It is almost impossible to see all the rest of my friends sites and it is very time consuming and difficult to maintain my own. I don’t know why Blogsome has been targeted by our fearless leaders here, but it has. 2. I am just beginning to get back in the swing of things here and not, as of yet, had much to fill you in on. I am working on that as we speak. 3. My creativity and imagination for the blog has been somewhat stifled lately due to another major project that I am working on. This will ease up as after Friday, September 14th. More details on that below…
Masters
Well, this coming Friday is the due date for my application into the Optional-Residency Masters of Creative Writing program at UBC. In order to apply, I have to submit a portfolio of 3 different types of genres of writing (which I have done movie script, short story and travel writing) all adding up to roughly 20 pages per genre. Needless to say, this has kept me very, very busy tidying it all up and getting it ready to send off. Right now, I am very self-conscious about my work and do not have the highest level of confidence that I will make the cut. It looks like a brilliant course and something that I would absolutely love to do, but, after Friday the only thing I will be able to do is hope and wait. So until I get this off, pretty much count on me being busy with it.
